9. Separate the pitman arm from the relay rod using puller J 24319-B . See Special Tools.

10. Remove the steering gear bolts (1).

11. Remove the steering gear from the vehicle.

12. Transfer the pitman arm as necessary. Refer to Pitman Arm Replacement .

Installation Procedure

1. Install the pitman arm if necessary. Refer to Pitman Arm Replacement .

2. Install the steering gear to the vehicle.

3. Install the steering gear bolts (1).

Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 150 N.m (110 lb ft).

NOTE:

Refer to Fastener Notice .

IMPORTANT: Start all of the steering gear bolts by hand and fully seat

them before finalizing the torque.

4. Install the pitman arm to the relay rod.

5. Install the pitman arm nut (1).

Tighten: Tighten the nut to 62 N.m (46 lb ft).

6. Connect the power steering hoses to the steering gear.

Tighten: Tighten the hoses fittings to 32 N.m (24 lb ft).

7. Connect the steering shaft coupling. Refer to Steering Shaft Coupling Replacement .
