If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for a high resistance.  

5. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the horn.  

Component Testing 

Horn 

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate horn.  

2. Install a 10A fused jumper wire between the control terminal B and 12 volts.  

3. Install a jumper wire between the ground terminal A and ground. Verify the horn emits a 

clear and even tone. 



If the sound emitted is not clear and even, replace the horn.  

Repair Procedures 

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure. 

Underhood Electrical Center or Junction Block Bracket Replacement  

Horn Replacement - Left Side (GMC) or Horn Replacement - Left Side (Chevrolet)  

Horn Replacement - Right Side (GMC) or Horn Replacement - Right Side 
(Chevrolet)  

Steering Wheel Horn Switch Replacement

Remove the front bumper fascia trim cap. Refer to Front Bumper Fascia Trim Cap 
Replacement (GMC) .

Left Side Horn Bolt 

Tighten: 9 N.m (80 lb in) 

NOTE:

Refer to Fastener Notice .

Left Side Horn 
Tip: Disconnect the electrical connector.
