J 3049-A Valve Lifter Remover. See Special Tools. Removal Procedure Fig. 157: View Of Valve Lifter Pushrod Guides 1. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Lower Intake Manifold Replacement. 2. Remove the pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement. 3. Remove the bolts and lifter pushrod guide. IMPORTANT: Place the components in a rack so that the components can be installed to their original location.

Use a cleaning solvent and a shop towel to clean any varnish from the valve lifter bores. 7. Inspect the lifter bores for excessive wear or scoring.
