9. Idle Speed Actuator Stepper Motor 
DLA

 

 

Functions: there is a bypath air passage in 
throttle valve casing, and engine speed can 
be controlled by bypath airflow, while 
bypath airflow is controlled by stepper 
motor, which is located in bypath air 
passage. ECU, according to signals sent by 
sensors, is able to control engine speed 
within the target speed range, which can be 
calibrated in accordance with coolant 
temperature.  
 
 
 
 
Composition and principle: the nature of 
stepper motor is a micro electrical machine, 
which can rotate in different directions as 
per its connecting with current of different 
directions. The rotation axis of electrical 
machine activates screw rod and indirectly 
controls valve opening.   
 

 
 
 
 

Failure diagnosis:   
ECU can monitor short circuit, open circuit 
status of two coils in idle speed stepper 
motor, and lighten engine failure lamp when 
such failure occurs, then engine enters 
failure mode.   
ECU is incapable of monitoring failure 
caused by mechanical part of electrical

Troubleshooting: check if there is short 

circuit or open circuit on the 4 lines 

connecting stepper motor and ECU.   

If there is clamping stagnation phenomenon 

in stepper motor 

If short circuit, open circuit occurs in 

interior stepper motor.   

Disassemble stepper motor, after electrification, 
conduct electrical testing on stepper motor to see if 
it has good flexibility.

10. Ignition Coil 
 
Function:  
ignition coil transforms low 
voltage of primary winding into high voltage 
of secondary winding, spark is generated 
through discharge of spark plug to ignite 
fuel and air mixture in cylinder.   

 
 
 
 

Composition and principle: utilizes the 
principle that solenoid mutual induction can 
generate high energy, and controls 
electrification time of primary coil; when 
power is cut off, uses high voltage generated 
in secondary coil to disrupt spark plug 
clearance, and generates intense spark so as 
to lighten gas mixture.   

 
 
 

Failure diagnosis: ECU can not function 
failure diagnosis on ignition coil, so in case 
any problem occurs in ignition coil, there is 
no failure code, the only way is to check the 
resistance of ignition coil to determine if the 
said coil is in working order. Under normal 
conditions, the thermal value of working 
ignition coil is fairly big, however, excessive 
temperature will lead to the increase of 
resistance value of ignition coil, unsteady 
performance and flameout of engine will 
occur. 

 

 
 
 

Caution: excessive temperature of ignition 
coil may cause engine ignition system

Pins:  

Primary winding of 1# coil connecting with 

A17# pin of ECU;   

Primary winding of 2# coil connecting with 

A18# pin of ECU;   

 

High-voltage side:   

Connect 1#, 2#, 3#, 4# pin respectively with 

spark plug of corresponding cylinder 

through sub live wire.   

 

Troubleshooting:  short circuit or open 

circuit occurs inside coil;   

Coil creepage, housing crack;   

Coil aging leads to insufficient electric 

quantity of ignition.

11. Assembly of Steely Fuel Distributing 
Pipe

 

Purpose:  to store and distribute fuel from 
fuel pump and control system fuel pressure 
through fuel pressure regulator to provide 
fuel injection system with a fairly stable 
pressure environment, to achieve 
counterbalance of supply pressure and fuel 
feed of each cylinder as well as smooth 
engine operation. 

 

 
 
 
 
 

Composition: fuel distributing pipe 
assembly is made up by fuel distributing 
pipe and injector. 

 

 
 
 
 
 

Installation requirement: connect fuel 
inlet/outlet pipes with rubber pipes and 
fasten them down wtih hoops. The size of 
hoops used shall match that of rubber pipes 
so as to ensure air-tight connection between 
fuel inlet/outlet pipes and rubber pipes to 
prevent fuel leakage. 

 

 
 
 
 

Failure diagnosis: generally, the probability 
for failure occurrence of fuel feeding header 
pipe is slim. Mostly, failure is caused by 
improper assembling, which leads to leakage 
in fuel system, therefore, be careful when 
assembling:    O-ring oil seal used can not be 
reused; when assembling, apply some 
lubrication oil as appropriate.

12. Crankshaft Position Sensor 
(Rotational Speed Sensor) 
 
Purpose:
 crankshaft position sensor is 
designed to provide ECU with signals of 
engine speed, rotation angle and top dead 
center to be used in engine ignition, fuel 
injection and timing system.   
 
 
 
Composition principle: MOTOROLA 
system introduces rotational speed sensor of 
magnetic induction coil type, and generates 
alternating current/voltage signal by rotary 
cutting line of magnetic force. The ECU, 
after reshaping such alternating signal, 
converts the said signal into digital signal 
identifiable to engine ECU to be used in
