Closer motor 

1. Apply battery positive voltage and connect ground to the corresponding closer motor terminals, and 

inspect the closer motor operation.

If not as indicated in the table, replace the liftgate latch and lock actuator.

1. When inspecting the latch, press the latch lever using a flathead screwdriver or a similar tool.

2. Verify that the continuity is as indicated in the table. 



If not as indicated in the table, replace the liftgate latch and lock actuator.

Liftgate lock actuator 

1. Apply battery positive voltage and connect ground to the corresponding liftgate lock actuator terminals, 

and inspect the liftgate lock actuator operation. 



If not as specified, replace the liftgate latch and lock actuator.

LIFTGATE OUTER HANDLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION 

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.  

2. Remove the liftgate upper trim. (See LIFTGATE UPPER TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)  

3. Remove the liftgate side trim. (See LIFTGATE SIDE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)  

4. Remove the liftgate lower trim. (See LIFTGATE LOWER TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)  

5. Remove the rear finisher. (See REAR FINISHER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)  

6. Disconnect the liftgate outer handle switch connector. (Vehicles with power liftgate system)  

7. Disconnect the cable. (Vehicles without power liftgate system)  

8. Remove in the order indicated in the table.

9. Install in the reverse order of removal.  

LIFTGATE OUTER HANDLE SWITCH INSPECTION 

1. Verify that the continuity between the liftgate outer handle switch terminals is as indicated in the table.

FUEL-FILLER LID OPENER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION 

1. When removing the fuel-filler lid opener, perform the following procedure: 

1. Trunk box. (See TRUNK BOX REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)  

2. Seat side box. (See SEAT SIDE BOX REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)  

3. Trunk end trim. (See TRUNK END TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)  

4. Third-row seat. (See THIRD-ROW SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)  

5. Rear scuff plate inner. (LH) (See REAR SCUFF PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)  

6. Third-row seat belt lower anchor installation bolt. (Driver side) (See THIRD-ROW SEAT BELT 

REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)  

7. Trunk side trim. (Driver side) (See TRUNK SIDE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)  

2. When removing the fuel-filler lid opener cable, perform the following procedure: 

1. Front scuff plate inner (LH) (See FRONT SCUFF PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)  

2. Rear scuff plate inner (LH) (See REAR SCUFF PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)  

3. Front seat belt lower anchor installation bolt (Driver side) (See FRONT SEAT BELT 

REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
