(5) Pull the glove box lamp and switch out from

the mounting hole far enough to access the wire har-
ness connector.

(6) Disconnect the instrument panel wire harness

connector from the glove box lamp and switch con-
nector receptacle.

(7) Remove the glove box lamp and switch from

the instrument panel.

AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.

(1) Position the glove box lamp and switch to the

instrument panel.

(2) Reconnect the instrument panel wire harness

connector to the glove box lamp and switch connector
receptacle.

(3) Feed the instrument panel wire harness back

into the glove box lamp and switch mounting hole in
the glove box opening upper reinforcement.

(4) Align the glove box lamp and switch housing

with the mounting hole in the instrument panel
glove box opening upper reinforcement.

(5) Push the glove box lamp and switch into the

mounting hole in the instrument panel glove box
opening upper reinforcement until the retaining
latches are fully engaged.

(6) Close the glove box.
(7) Connect the battery negative cable.

READING LAMP

REMOVAL

(1) Disconnect and isolate the battery negative

cable.

(2) From the center of the lens outward, pry the

lens from the overhead console.

(3) Remove bulb.

INSTALLATION

(1) Install bulb.
(2) Snap lens into position.
(3) Connect the battery negative cable.

in the Bulb Application Table. Damage to lamp can
result. Do not touch halogen bulbs with fingers or
other oily surfaces. Bulb life will be reduced.

FRONT POSITION LAMP

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles are equipped with front position

lamps. One front position lamp is incorporated into
each turn signal lamp housing. These lamps utilize a
clear lens and clear bulb and function in the same
way that parking lamps do on other market built
vehicles (U.S., Canada).

OPERATION

The front position lamps are turned on or off with

the headlamp switch. These lamps function in the
same way that the parking lamps do on other market
built vehicles (U.S., Canada). For complete circuit
diagrams, refer to the appropriate wiring informa-
tion. The wiring information includes wiring dia-
grams, proper wire and connector repair procedures,
details of wire harness routing and retention, connec-
tor pin-out information and location views for the
various wire harness connectors, splices and grounds.

DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING - FRONT POSITION
LAMP

The following test is designed to diagnosis a faulty

front position lamp. For complete circuit diagrams,
refer to the appropriate wiring information. The wir-
ing information includes wiring diagrams, proper
wire and connector repair procedures, details of wire
harness routing and retention, connector pin-out
information and location views for the various wire
harness connectors, splices and grounds.

NOTE: Battery must be completely charged (12v)
prior to testing. It may also be necessary to install
battery charger on the vehicles electrical system
when performing this test. Refer to the Battery sec-
tion of the service manual for detailed information.

(1) Remove the front position lamp bulb and check

for burned out condition, replace bulb if necessary.

(2) If bulb appears OK, reinstall the bulb in its

socket and turn front position lamp “ON”, check for
lamp operation. If lamp is still inoperative proceed to
step #3.

(3) Remove lamp bulb and check for proper power

(12v) and ground connections in lamp socket. If
power and / or ground connections are not present,
trace wire until open or short is found.

(4) If a short or open is not found, replace the Cen-

tral Timer Module (CTM).

REMOVAL

(1) Remove the front position and turn signal lamp

assembly.

(2) Remove the front position lamp socket from the

back of the lamp housing by rotating counter-clock-
wise and pulling straight out (Fig. 1).

(3) Remove the front position lamp bulb from its

socket.

INSTALLATION

(1) Install the front position lamp bulb in its

socket.

(2) Verify lamp operation.
(3) Install front position lamp socket into the lamp

housing.

(4) Install the front position / turn signal lamp

housing.

HEADLAMP ALIGNMENT

HEADLAMP ALIGNMENT PREPARATION

(1) Verify headlamp dimmer switch and high beam

indicator operation.

(2) Verify headlamps are set for low beam opera-

tion.

(3) Correct defective components that could hinder

proper headlamp alignment.

(4) Verify proper tire inflation.
(5) Clean headlamp lenses.
(6) Verify that luggage area is not heavily loaded.
(7) Fuel tank should be FULL. Add 2.94 kg (6.5

lbs.) of weight over the fuel tank for each estimated
gallon of missing fuel.

ALIGNMENT SCREEN PREPARATION

(1) Position the vehicle on a level surface perpen-

dicular to a flat wall 10 meters (32.8 ft) away from
front of headlamp lens (Fig. 2).

(2) If necessary, tape a line on the floor 10 meters

(32.8 ft) away from and parallel to the wall.

(3) Place 75 kg in the drivers seat to simulate the

ride height of the vehicle when driven.

(4) Tape a line on the wall, up 1.27 meters (5 feet)

from the floor, at the centerline of the vehicle. Sight
along the centerline of the vehicle (from rear of vehi-
cle forward) to verify accuracy of the line placement.

(5) Rock vehicle side-to-side three times to allow

suspension to stabilize.

(6) Jounce front suspension three times by pushing

downward on front bumper and releasing.

(7) Measure the distance from the center of head-

lamp lens to the floor. Transfer measurement to the
alignment screen (with tape) (Fig. 2). Use this line
for up/down adjustment reference.

(8) Place a tape line 130mm below and parallel to

the center of headlamp line (Fig. 2).

(9) Measure distance from the centerline of the

vehicle to the center of each headlamp being aligned.
Transfer measurements to screen (with tape) to each
side of vehicle centerline. Use these lines (Fig. 2) for
left/right adjustment reference.

HEADLAMP ADJUSTMENT

A properly aimed low beam headlamp will project a

high intensity light pattern on the screen with the
horizontal cut-off line aligned with the tape line 130
mm. (5.12 in.) below the headlamp centerline. The
intersection of the horizontal and 15 degree cut-off
lines in the projected pattern should align to the
intersection of the headlamp centerline vertical tape
line and the tape line 130 mm. (5.12 in.) below the
headlamp horizontal centerline. The high beam pat-
tern should be correct when the low beams are
aligned properly.

To adjust low beam headlamp, rotate alignment

screws (Fig. 3) to achieve the specified aim.
