DESCRIPTION OF FUEL SYSTEM
XF engines are equipped with an in-line injection
pump with a mechanical regulator and a smoke
limiter.
The exhaust control unit controls the fuel output
in accordance with the boost pressure in the
inlet manifold.
The mechanical regulator controls the fuel
output in accordance with the engine load.
A manual fuel lift pump is fitted to bleed the
low-pressure area of the system.
To achieve permanent bleeding of the
low-pressure area, a banjo bolt with a calibrated
hole has been installed in the head of the filter.
A very small quantity of fuel will also escape
through this calibrated hole. But because the
hole is so small, and the fuel supply so large,
pressure will be built up in the filter, and the fuel
will be forced on to the fuel pump.
