REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS REAR AXLE LUBRICANT LEVEL INSPECTION (11.5 INCH AXLE) 1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle . 2. Make sure the vehicle is level. 3. Inspect the rear axle for leaks. Repair as necessary. 4. Clean the area around the rear axle fill plug. Locking Differential Cam Unit Assemble (8.6 Inch Locking Differential Adjustment (8.6 Inch Axle) or Locking Differential Assemble (9.5 Inch Axle) The thrust block is broken Replace the thrust block with a block of identical thickness. The case is damaged Replace the unit. Refer to Differential Replacement (8.6, The differential gears are Replace the gears. Fig. 30: Identifying Rear Axle Fill Plug 5. Remove the rear axle fill plug and the seal. 6. Inspect the lubricant level. Specification: The lubricant level should be between 17-21 mm (0.6-0.8 in) below the fill 7. If the level is low, add lubricant until the level is between 17-21 mm (0.6-0.8 in) below the fill plug opening. Use the proper fluid. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant 8. Install the rear axle fill plug and gasket. Tighten: Tighten the rear axle fill plug to 33 N.m (24 lb ft). NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .

Inspect the lubricant level: Specification: The lubricant level should be between 1-19 mm (0.04-0.75 in) below Specification: The lubricant level should be between 15-40 mm (0.59-1.57 in) below 7.
