Chery A15. Manual - part 238

Section Seven Piston and Connecting Rod Assembly

One. Checking the connecting rod and
bearing
(1) Meausre the connecting rod bearing
clearance with a clearance gauge (Figure
79).

(2) Lubricate the new bolts with engine
oil before screwing them on.
(3) Screw on the bolts.
(4) Screw on the bolts with a torque of
26N.m +1/4 turn. Do not use pneumatic
tools.
(5) Check the connecting rod side
clearance with a gauge (Figure 80) (see
Engine-Specifications).

Two. Check the cylinder cover and
piston
1. Measuring
Clean and blow dry the piston and
cylinder. Measure the piston diameter in
90 degree position, or about 14mm (see
Figure 82 for measurement position).

2. Unfixing
(1) Please mark the crank shaft bearing
cover in ink before the piston is unfixed
(Figure 67).

(2) The piston and connecting rod must
be unfixed and turn the crank shaft to put
the connecting rod in the center.
(3) Unscrew the connecting rod bolts.
(4) Install connecting rod conduit special
tools, protect the crank shaft surface
(Figure 83) and carefully press the piston
connecting rod assembly to the cylinder.
(5) Uninstall the special tool, connecting
rod conduit and screw on the bearing
cover bolts.

3. Fixing
(1) Fix the piston ring onto the piston
(see Engine/Engine Body/Piston ring –
Fixing).
(2) Turn the crank shaft and connecting
rod and lubricate the connecting rod.
(3) Fix the bearing cover onto the
connecting rod.
(4) Fix the special tool of connecting rod
guide onto the cylinder body (Figure 84).
(5) After fixing the piston and
connecting rod, make sure that the
compression clearance is correct.
(6) Pour clean engine oil into the piston
and ring.
(7) Use the special tool to compress the
piston ring.

(8) Fix the piston onto the cylinder and
mark accordingly (Figure 85).
(9) Fix the piston into the cylinder
together with the connecting rod.
(10) Unfix the conecting rod special tool.
(11) Fix the connecting rod lower
bearing cover with a torque of 26N.m
+1/4 turn.
