The air conditioning unit of Chery A15 car is divided into five basic composition parts as per 

different functions, namely cooling system, heating system, ventilation system, control system 

and air purification system. 

(1). Cooling system adopts vapor compression refrigeration theory to cool down the air in car 

compartment. As the cooling sources, the evaporator’s temperature is even lower than dew 

point, therefore the cooling system also has the functions of dehumidification and air 

purification. The cooling system of Chery electric-controlled fuel injection engine car uses 

R134a coolant. As shown in the figure, the cooling system mainly consists of compressor, 

condenser, expansion valve, evaporator, etc. Liquid coolant in evaporator absorbs heat in the 

air in car compartment and is gasified into low-temperature and low-pressure coolant vapor 

and then absorbed by compressor which compresses coolant vapor into high-pressure and 

high-temperature gas and transmits it to condenser, where the coolant is cooled by ambient air 

and condensed into fluid after releasing heat, and then is dewatered by fluid reservoir. The 

high-pressure and high-temperature coolant fluid is throttled by expansion valve (fixed in 

evaporator inlet tube) to lower the pressure and temperature, and then reenters evaporator. 

The low-temperature and low-pressure coolant fluid then again absorbs heat in car 

compartment and is regasified into low-temperature and low-pressure coolant vapor to be 

reabsorbed by compressor. By this continuous circulation, the cooling system lowers the 

temperature inside car.

(2). Heating system adopts engine coolant as heating source and induces engine coolant into 

the warm water tank in car compartment, then heats the air inside by blower, meanwhile 

defrosts and demists windshield. The air conditioning unit of Chery A15 car is of a reheating 

combination style, which means that heating system can independently heat the circulating air 

inside car compartment or fresh air outside, or cool these two kinds of air together first and 

then heat all or part of the mixture air to obtain desired air temperature. The air conditioning 

unit of Chery A15 car is of a reheating combination style, which means that heating system

desired air temperature. In this way, it is possible to obtain clean air with appropriate 

humidity after dehumidifying and filtering the air. 

(3). The centrifugal blower of ventilation system works to ventilate the car compartment in 

addition to cooling and heating the air in the compartment. Ventilation system consists of air 

filter, air inlet, air duct, air outlet, etc. Ventilation system induces outside fresh air into car 

compartment, and air outlet exhausts the vitiated air out of the compartment. Two ventilation 

forms are available with Chery A15 car, namely natural ventilation and forced ventilation. 

Fresh air/circulating air vacuum valve controls the fresh air inlet to open or shut off. 

In natural ventilation, fresh air enters backup tank from the air inlet located under windshield 

(positive-pressure area) and the safety belt slot on backup tank cover, and then goes out 

through rear boarding of vehicle body, backup tank lining and air outlet on rear longitudinal 

beam (negative-pressure area) into atmosphere. The air moving in rear part of vehicle body 

defrosts the rear window, and the non-pressure process avoids noises and interference with 

running speed of vehicle. 

In forced ventilation, fresh air compressed by blower enters car compartment from various air 

ducts without going through warm air radiator (mixing throttle closed), and then goes out in 

the same way as in natural ventilation. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

(4). Control system mainly consists of electrical elements, vacuum tube and control 

mechanism. Control system controls temperature and pressure in cooling and heating systems, 

air temperature and airflow in car compartment, and also air-out direction.

(5). Air purification system is mainly of a dust filter, which serves to filter the air induced 

from outside and exhaust vitiated air in car compartment to purify the air inside. 

 

Section Nine: Troubleshooting Table 

 

1. Installation Precautions of Air Conditioning System 

(1). Pipeline fastened by dual-nuts must be installed with two wrenches to avoid deformation 

or cracking of pipeline; 

(2). Use nitrogen or coolant gas instead of compressed air to clean pipelines; 

(3). Install properly and follow all tightening torque requirements; 

(4). Check all parts to ensure undamage and no mutual interference of neighboring parts. 

(5). Perform leakage test to ensure that the whole system is free of any leakage.
