Steering Linkage - Tie Rod End

Removal and Installation

Special Tool(s)

Splitter, Ball Joints

Removal

1. 

WARNING: Do not work on or under a vehicle supported only

by a jack. Always support the vehicle on safety stands.

Raise and support the vehicle.

Remove the front wheel.

Refer to: 

Wheel and Tire

 (204-04 W heels and Tires, Removal and

Installation).

Loosen the tie-rod end lock nut.

3.

CAUTION: Make sure that the ball joint ball

does not rotate.

Release the tie-rod end ball joint from the wheel
knuckle.

Special Tool(s):

CAUTION: Note the number of turns when

removing the tie rod end to aid installation.

Remove the tie-rod end.

Installation

1. 

CAUTION: Make sure that the tie rod end is installed with

the same number of turns as when removed.

Install the tie-rod end.

WARNING: Make sure that a new tie-rod end nut is

installed.

• CAUTIONS:

 Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign

material.

 Make sure that the ball joint ball does not rotate.

Connect the tie-rod end ball joint.

Torque: 70 Nm

CAUTION: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and

free of foreign material.

Tighten the tie-rod locking nut.

Torque: 55 Nm

Install the front wheel.

Wheel and Tire

 (204-04 W heels and Tires, Removal and

Installation).

Using only four wheel alignment equipment approved by Land Rover,
check and adjust the wheel alignment.

Removal and Installation

Removal

1. 

WARNING: Make sure to support the vehicle with axle

stands.

Raise and support the vehicle.

Remove the tie rod end.

Refer to: 

Tie Rod End

 (211-03 Steering Linkage, Removal and

Installation).

3. NOTE: Note the fitted position.

Installation

1. CAUTIONS:

 Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign

material.

 Make sure that the boot is correctly located.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
