SKIM MESSAGE NOT RECEIVED BY MIC

When Monitored:

Monitored during ignition on.

Set Condition:

No SKIM messages received for 6 seconds.

APPLICABILITY

Turn ignition on.
Connect the DRBIII.
Select THEFT ALARM, then, SKIM.
Is there a response from the SKIM Module?

All

Yes

→

Go To

2

No

→

Refer to symptom BUS +/- SIGNALS OPEN FROM SKIM in the
COMMUNICATIONS category.
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

With the DRBIII

t, erase the DTC from Instrument Cluster.

Now be sure that there is still communication with the SKIM module, if not repair as
necessary.
With the DRB check, for the same DTC to reappear.
Did the same DTC become present again?

All

Yes

→

Go To

3

No

→

Test Complete.

Note: Visually inspect the related wiring harness. Look for any chafed,
pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
Note: Visually inspect the related wiring harness connectors. Look for
broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded terminals.
Note: Refer to any technical service bulletins that may apply.
If any problems are found to be present, Repair as necessary.
Were any problems found?

All

No

→

Replace the Instrument Cluster.
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

Yes

→

Repair as necessary.
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER

Symptom:

*AIRBAG INDICATOR NOT OPERATING PROPERLY

POSSIBLE CAUSES

AIRBAG INDICATOR BULB AND SOCKET

AIRBAG OR MIC DTC’S

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD

Turn the ignition from the Lock to the Run position. This will start the Airbag bulb
self test.
Did the

9Airbag9 indicator light?

All

Yes

→

Go To

No

→

Go To

Using the DRB read instrument cluster and Airbag DTC’s.
Are there any Airbag or Instrument Cluster DTC’s present?

All

Yes

→

Refer to symptom list for problems related to Airbag or Instru-
ment Cluster.
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

No

→

Test Complete.

Remove and inspect the Airbag bulb and socket.
Is there a problem with the bulb or socket?

All

Yes

→

Repair or replace Airbag bulb or socket as needed.
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

No

→

Replace bad Instrument Cluster circuit board.
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER

Symptom:

*ALL GAUGES NOT OPERATING

POSSIBLE CAUSES

GROUND CIRCUIT OPEN

IGNITION RUN START CIRCUT OPEN

NO VOLTAGE AT THE FUSED B(+) CIRCUIT

FUSED B(+) CKT SHORT TO GND.

REPLACEMENT OF FUSE #17

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER - PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD

NOTE: Ensure there is PCI Bus Communication with the Cluster, PCM and
the BCM before proceeding.
Remove and inspect J/B fuse #17.
Is the fuse open?

All

Yes

→

Go To

No

→

Go To

Turn ignition off.
Replace the open fuse
Turn the ignition on.
Did the new fuse blow after installation and turning the ignition on?

All

Yes

→

Go To

No

→

Test complete.
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

Turn the ignition on.
Be sure a correct fuse is installed in the circuit being tested.
Note: There must be at least 10 volts present at both sides of the fuse; repair
or replace as necessary before continuing.
Disconnect the Instrument Cluster harness connector.
Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, check the Fused Ignition Switch
Output circuit in the Instrument Cluster connector.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?

All

Yes

→

Go To

No

→

Repair the open fused ign. run/start circuit from fuse #22.
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

Turn ignition off.
Turn all lights off.
Disconnect the Instrument Cluster connector.
Close all doors.
Measure the resistance of both ground circuits.
Was the resistance in either ground circuit above 5.0 ohms?

All

Yes

→

Repair the Instrument Cluster Ground circuit for an open.
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

No

→

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER

TEST

ACTION

APPLICABILITY

Turn ignition off.
Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
Ensure Fuse #17 is installed before proceeding.
Turn ignition on.
Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, check the Fused Ignition Switch
Output circuit in the Instrument Cluster connector.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?

All

No

→

Repair the open Fused B(+) circuit from fuse #17.
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

Yes

→

Go To

Turn ignition off.
Remove Junction Block Fuse #17
Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
Measure the resistance between ground and the Fused B(+) circuit
What resistance did you measure?

All

100 ohms or less.

Repair fused B(+) circuit for a short to ground and replace blown
fuse.
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.

Greater than 100 ohms

If there are no possible causes remaining, replace the Instrument
Cluster circuit board.
Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST - VER 1.
