18. Disconnect SRS unit connector A (28P) from the

SRS unit (see step 7 on page 24-26).

19. Measure the resistance between the No. 14

terminal of SRS unit connector A (28P) and body
ground. There should be an open circuit or at least
1 M

.

Go to step 20.

20. Measure the resistance between the No. 14

terminal of SRS unit connector A (28P) and the
No. 7 terminal of the OPDS unit harness 8P
connector. There should be 0

21. Disconnect the floor wire harness 10P connector

C504 from the front passenger’s seat wire harness.

22. Measure the resistance between the No. 14

terminal of SRS unit connector A (28P) and the
No. 8 terminal of floor wire harness 10P connector
C504. There should be 0

Open in the front passenger’s seat wire

harness; replace the front passenger’s seat wire
harness.

Open in the dashboard wire harness or the

floor wire harness; replace the faulty harness.

23. Disconnect front passenger’s seat wire harness 4P

connector C801 from the OPDS unit harness.

24. Measure the resistance between the No. 14

terminal of SRS unit connector A (28P) and body
ground. There should be an open circuit or at least
1 M

.

Short to ground in the OPDS unit harness;

replace the OPDS unit harness.

Short to ground in the dashboard wire

harness, front passenger’s seat wire harness or
floor wire harness; replace the faulty harness.

Internal Failure of the

OPDS/ODS Unit

OPDS Sensor Initial Check Failure

NOTE:

• An incorrect OPDS/ODS unit can cause DTC 85-63.
• Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review

SRS Precautions and Procedures (see page 24-16)
and General Troubleshooting Information (see page
24-27).

1. Clear the DTC memory (see page 24-28).

2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and check that the

SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and
then goes off.

Go to step 3.

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this

time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures
(see page 24-29). If another DTC is indicated,
troubleshoot the DTC.

3. Initialize the OPDS/ODS unit (see page 24-30).

4. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and check that the

SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and
then goes off.

NOTE: Before doing this troubleshooting procedure,
review SRS Precautions and Procedures (see page
24-16) and General Troubleshooting Information
(see page 24-27).

2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and check that the

SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and
then goes off.

Turn the ignition switch OFF, and go to step 3.

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this

time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures
(see page 24-29). If another DTC is indicated,
troubleshoot the DTC.

3. Make sure nothing is on the front passenger’s seat.

4. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and check that the

SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and
then goes off.

The system is OK.

Go to step 5.

5. Initialize the OPDS/ODS unit (see page 24-30).

6. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and check that the

SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and
then goes off.

The system is OK.

Replace the OPDS/ODS unit (see page 24-192)

and retest. If the problem is still present, replace
the OPDS sensor/seat-back (see page 20-111).

Does the SRS indicator stay on, and is DT C85-4x,
85-5x, 85-63, or 85-64 indicated?

Does the SRS indicator go of f ?

Does the SRS indicator stay on, and is DT C 85-7 9
indicated?

Does the SRS indicator go of f ?

Does the SRS indicator go of f ?

YES

The system is OK.

Go to Step 5.

Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and check that the

Faulty OPDS Seat-back Sensor

NOTE: Before doing this troubleshooting procedure,
review SRS Precautions and Procedures (see page
24-16) and General Troubleshooting Information
(see page 24-27).

1. Clear the DTC memory (see page 24-28).

2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and check that the

SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and
then goes off.

Go to step 3.

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this

time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures
(see page 24-29). If another DTC is indicated,
troubleshoot the DTC.

NOTE: Aftermarket devices (fluorescent lights,
laptop computers, etc.) used near the front
passenger’s seat-back can interfere with the seat-
back sensors and cause a false DTC 86-1x or 86-2x.
If one of these devices was used, clear the DTC,
operate the device near the seat-back, and recheck
for DTCs. If DTC 86-1x or 86-2x is set, clear it, and
do not use the device near the seat-back.

3. Check the connection at the OPDS sensor harness

connectors (A) and the OPDS/ODS unit connector
(B).

Go to step 4.

Reconnect the OPDS sensor harness

connector, and clear the DTC.

4. Replace the OPDS sensor/seat-back foam (see page

20-111), and initialize the OPDS/ODS unit (see page
24-30).

5. Clear the DTC memory, then check for DTC 86-1x or

86-2x.

Replace the OPDS/ODS unit (see page

24-192).

The system is OK.

Does the SRS indicator stay on?

Is the connection OK ?
