The audio system has a self-diagnostic function. To run the self-diagnostic function, do the following:

NOTE: The audio unit must be in the code enter screen before doing the self-diagnostic function.

1. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC (I) or ON (II) position.

2. Turn off the audio unit.

3. Push and hold the ‘‘No. 1’’ and ‘‘DISC No. 6’’ buttons. While holding the buttons, push the ‘‘VOL push PWR’’ knob

(A) to ON. Release the buttons and the self-diagnostic function begins.

4. By pressing a preset button, the input triggers the diagnostic mode that is assigned to that preset switch.

Entire LCD lighting mode: Turns on the entire LCD to show the presence or absence of an LCD segment failure.

Entire LCD light-out mode: Turns off the entire LCD to show the presence or absence of an LCD failure.

5. The self-diagnostic function ends when you turn the audio unit off, or turn the ignition switch off.

Error Codes

The audio system displays error codes when a problem is detected with the CD disc changer, the audio disc, the XM
radio, or the anti-theft code.

CD DISC ERROR

Cannot read disc.

Eject the disc and try another one.

DISC ERROR

There is a problem with the disc
player. A common problem is
disc labels coming off the disc
while in the player.

Try to eject the disc and try another one. If
there is still a problem, replace the audio unit.

CD HEAT ERROR

Disc player is hot. This can
happen if the vehicle is parked
out in the hot sun all day.

Park the vehicle in a cooler place for a while
and try the disc player again. If the error
code is still present, try another disc. If the
error code is still present, replace the audio
unit.

LOADING

XM radio is acquiring audio or
program information.

Wait until the radio receives the information.

XM OFF AIR

XM channel not in service.

Try another XM channel.

XM NO SIGNAL

Loss of signal.

Both terrestrial and satellite antennas have
lost signal. Park the vehicle outside with a
clear view of the southern horizon.

XM UPDATING

XM radio is receiving
information update from the
network.

This message will disappear once the update
finishes.

XM ANTENNA

XM antenna error.

Repair the open or short in the terrestrial or
satellite antenna. Remove the XM antenna
and recheck. If the error is gone, replace the
original XM antenna harness. If the error is
still present, replace the antenna lead.

No signal from XM.

Check a known-good vehicle with XM radio.
If the known-good vehicle has the same
symptoms, contact XM Satellite Radio at
(800) 852

9696.

CODE ERROR E

Anti-theft code mismatch
(1 try).

Enter the correct anti-theft code.

CODE ERROR 1

Anti-theft code mismatch
(10 try).

Remove fuse No. 5 (20 A) in the under-dash
fuse/relay box, then reinsert it. You will have
10 more tries to enter the correct anti-theft
code.

Symptom Troubleshooting

NOTE:

• Check the vehicle battery condition first.
• Check the radio reception in an open area. Poor

reception/interference can be caused by any of these
conditions:
– The radio station is far away.
– Atmospheric conditions are unfavorable.
– A tall buildings, mountains, or a high-voltage

power lines are nearby.

– Aftermarket window tint.

1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

2. Do the seek stop test (see page 23-55).

Multipath interference or weak station.

Operation is normal.

Go to step 3.

3. Check if the radio reception/interference is the

same in several locations.

Go to step 4.

Multipath interference or weak station.

Operation is normal.

4. Check the reception/interference while the engine

is running.

Check the antenna and radio grounds. If OK,

check the charging system and the ignition
system.

Go to step 5.

5. Tune the ignition switch OFF.

6. Remove the rear roof trim (see page 20-175).

7. Touch one tester probe to the antenna element 1P

connector No. 1 terminal, and the other tester
probe at the antenna element to check for
continuity. Replace if there is no continuity.

8. Remove the audio unit (see page 23-57). Check that

the AM/FM antenna sub-lead and main-lead are
properly connected.

Go to step 9.

Reconnect the connector, and recheck the

function.

9. Disconnect the antenna cable 3P connector from

the antenna amplifier (see page 23-62).

10. Tune the ignition switch ON (II).

Is the test vehicle within 10 % of the known-good
vehicle?

Turn on the audio unit and select AM or FM.

12. Measure the voltage between the antenna cable

connector No. 3 terminal at the AM/FM antenna
AMPLIFIER lead and body ground.

Go to step 17.

13. Tune the ignition switch OFF.

14. Disconnect the audio unit connector E (3P).

NOTE: Eject all the CDs before removing the audio
unit and CD changer to prevent damaging the CD
player’s load mechanism.

15. Check for continuity between the audio unit

connector E (3P) No. 3 terminal and the AM/FM
antenna amplifier 3P connector No. 3 terminal.

Go to step 16.

Repair open in the wire between the audio

unit and the AM/FM antenna amplifier, and check
the antenna lead and/or sublead connections.

16. Check for continuity between audio unit connector

E (3P) No. 3 terminal and body ground.

Repair short to ground in the wire between

the audio unit and AM/FM antenna.

Replace the audio unit (see page 23-57).

17. Tune the ignition switch OFF.

18. Disconnect the audio unit connector E (3P).

NOTE: Eject all the CDs before removing the audio
unit and CD changer to prevent damaging the CD
player’s load mechanism.

19. Check for continuity between the audio unit

connector E (3P) No. 1 terminal and the AM/FM
antenna amplifier 3P connector No. 1 terminal.

Go to step 20.

Replace the AM/FM antenna lead and/or

sublead.
