different,  enclose  the  one  with  a  big  bore  first  and  put  it  into 

valve  housing  (1)  completely  and  cling  to  inner  end  surface  of 

valve housing.

 During the next assemble process, care should be taken that the 

steering  shaft  avoid  any  axial  thrust,  and  keep  compaction 

between steering bearing and valve housing all the time for fear 

every part of bearing unhitch or disturb. 

8.4 

Install the valve components on the valve, keep the  medial rack of 

steering  ball  nut  align  to  bearing  hole  center  of  pitman  shaft  and 

keep  upper  oil  port  of  valve  housing  align  to  oil  return  hole  of 

housing,  then  thrust  rotary  spool  valve-screw  and  nut  components 

into 

housing

(GB/T93-1987  12)  (6)  join  the  valve  housing  with  housing, 

tightening  torque  is  80  N·m～90  N·m.  Keep  the  gullet  of  rack 

center of steering nut lies on output shaft center of housing.

(Figure  9)  Assemble  pitman 

arm  shaft  components  (5)  with 

side  cover  components  (4) 

together,  turn  the  side  cover  as 

entad as possible, mount nut (1) 

on  the  adjust  screw  of  pitman 

arm  shaft  components  and  do 

not  screw  to  the  end.  Then 

enclose  the  components  to 

housing  (6).  Thereinto,  should 

adjust  the  position  of  steering 

ball nut when assembly, ensure                                            Figure 9                     

medial  sector  gear  of  pitman  arm  shaft  engage  with  the  medial 

gullet  of  steering  nut.  Finally,  use  six  light  spring  washer 

GB/T859-1987 10 (3) and hexagon bolt (2) join the side cover with 

housing, tighten torque is 45 N·m～53.9 N·m.

(Figure  10)  Assemble  the  needle  roller  thrust  bearing  (ZDZ4-170) 

(3)  on  the  head  of  screw,  turn  adjust  nut  (2)  to  housing,  until  the 

end  then  back    10°～25°,  keep  the  relative  position  between 

adjust  nut  and  housing,  then  tighten  locknut  with  the  torque 

180N·m～210N·m. 

※

 

Notice:  Must  ensure  every  part  of  bearing  (3)  assembles  on  the 

screw  correctly,  it  can’t  be  dropped  out  or  stagger,  and  should 

mount the thick bearing seat firstly and make it close to screw 

shaft. 

Admonition: If misplace the tooth, it will cause the travel of a 

certain direction of steering gear is not enough, thereby cause 

steering  accident.  Should  inspect  bruising  of  spline  when 

assemble geared sector, prevent to cut seal.     

Adjusting of steering torque (Figure 10) 

Fix  the  above  assembly  to  the 

clamp, turn the adjust screw (4) 

of  pitman  shaft  components 

deasil,  tweak  to  the  end  then 

back  about  3/4  circle,  ensure 

steering  shaft  run  smoothly

obvious  lash.  Keep  the 

position 

of

Installation of steering gear 

1.  With  steering  gear  at  the  center  of  travel  and  joint  with  the 
intermediate  steering  shaft.  Then  mount  the  steering  gear  with  pitman 
arm  to  frame.  Inspect  whether  the  spring  washer  in  good  condition, 
install the spring washer and bolts, tighten the bolts and set the steering 
gear on the medial position. 

2. Assemble the steering tie rod and the steering pitman arm together. 
3. Lower the  vehicle, joint the  hoses to steering  gear,  and then tighten 
joints of hoses to the specified torque. 
4.  Fill  power  steering  fluid  into  the  reservoir  of  pump  and  exhaust  air 
in the system. 

※

 Notice: 

①

  Please  avoid  to cause  distortion  of  other  parts,  especially  the 

column  when  install  the  steering  gear.  Column,  transmission 
shaft,  pitman  arm  and  tie  rod  should  not  intervene  with  each 
other and they should turn smoothly. 

②

  Please pay attention to the signs “        ”  and “      ”each on 

the inlet and outlet of the steering gear when you joint the tube, 
do not joint against with them. Otherwise, it could damage the 
steering gear. 

Fluid level and test run 
Inject oil and exhaust air 

1. 

Must  through  filter  and  choose  the  appointed  power  steering  fluid 

when  add  oil  into  the  steering  gear,  finally  inject  it  into  the  reservoir. 
Raise the front axle; turn the steering wheel fully to left and right several 
times, then inject oil. Start engine and idling, turn the steering wheel fully 
to left and right several times, then inject oil to reservoir, turn the steering 
wheel to stop until there is no air bubble on the oil fluid and the oil level 
stop to decline, then turn off the engine a few minutes. 

※

 Notice:  Stop  injecting  oil  due  to  affect  the  effect  of  exhaust 

probably when the oil level reach to the scale line. 

Admonition: 
If  use  the  power  steering  fluid  not  appointed  or  mix  two  fluids 
together, it will cause the failure of seals and result in hard steer. 
2.  After  inject  oil  into  the  reservoir  of  pump  according  to  the  above 
method  of  inject  oil  and  exhaust  air,  start  the  engine  again  and  turn 
steering wheel  fully  to left and right several times, inspect whether there 
is any abnormity

 

then turn off the engine. 

3.  Do  the  trial  run  of  vehicle,  confirm  whether  the  function  of  steering 
system is well-balanced. 
4. Pay attention to it when using the steering gear: 
①

  Should  inspect whether  the  fluid  is  clean  and  has  dirt  in  it  after  the 

new  steering  gear  tested  running.  Should  instead  by  new  fluid  and 
clean steering system if there is dirt in the fluid. 

②

  Should inspect whether the attachment screw of every part of steering 

gear  is  firm  after  the  new  vehicle  through  running-in,  they  shouldn’t 
loose. 

Use and maintenance of steering gear 

1.  When  the  steering  gear  needs  to  inject  oil  due  to  maintenance  or 

other  reason,  it  should  fill  the  power  steering  fluid  within 
specification,  do  not  use  the  power  steering  fluid  besides  the 
appointed  or  mixed  with  other  fluids.  Otherwise  it  will  cause  the 
problems such as the seal failure etc. 

2.  The  steering  gear  needs  to  change  oil  after  first  running  of 

3000Km,  from  then  on,  change  oil  once  after  every  running  of 
20,000  Km.  It  must  be  replaced  by  the  specified  standard  power 
steering oil. 

3.  Every  joint  should  be  tightened  to  specification  during  maintain 

the steering gear. 

4.  The steering system needs periodic check within every 5000Km: 

①

  Each  jointing  part  can  not  be  loose  within  the  stated  torque 

range, every ball joint can not be loose; 

②

  The steering function is well-balanced. 

5.  Should  periodic  check  the  oil  level  of  reservoir  within  every 

5000Km, inject oil to the reservoir according to the above method 
of  inject  oil  and  exhaust  air  if  the  fluid  doesn’t  reach  the  stated 
fluid level. 

6.  Steering wheel stop on the steering limiting position do not exceed 

five seconds, for fearing to break steering pump. 

7.  Pay  attention  to  the  points  as  below  when  replace  steering  gear: 

①   Avoid  knocking;  ②   Keep  steering  system  clean,  strictly 
prohibit  dirt  enter.  ③  Make  the  sign  of  assembling  position 
before disassembly to avoid misplacement. 

Admonition: 

①

  Because  steering  gear  is  the  exact  part  and  also  an  ensure-safe 

part, absolutely prohibit the customers disassemble by themselves.
